Living Carbon’s mission is to responsibly rebalance the planet’s carbon cycle using the power of plants.

Our Mission

We believe the challenge of climate instability is the biggest opportunity for global mobilization we have ever seen. It is an opportunity to learn how to use technology to rebalance our ecosystems rather than further alienate us from them. We work with the inherent power of plants, informed by generations of scientific research, to restore ecosystems, improve biodiversity, and enhance the ability of photosynthetic organisms to draw down and store carbon from the atmosphere.

Our Values

Make the Launch Window

We are motivated by the urgency of the climate crisis. We move with precision, thoughtfulness, and a sense of responsibility for the limited resource of time. Now is the launch window for large-scale carbon removal solutions. We are already seeing the effects of our climate crisis - water scarcity, catastrophic fires, once-in-a-century storms every year. We operate every day from a purpose-driven mindset which is necessary to reverse the current warming trajectory.

Coevolve

As we learn from nature, ecology is a driving force of change on Earth. We are as strong as our team. We celebrate the success of others as our own - because it is. Our approach to technology is the same. We are working on ways in which our technology and ecological systems can work together to support a balance of give and take.

Communicate Like a Forest

Despite a plethora of unique species, forests communicate as one macrocosm - sharing nutrients and feedback from the environment through a network of subterranean fungi called mycorrhizae. Likewise, to move as one towards our mission, we communicate with openness, trust, and the celebration of feedback as an opportunity to adapt. We actively create open pathways of communication within our ecosystem, bringing together land stewards, businesses, scientists, and investors so that we can create value for all involved. We look for a shared motivation and diverse backgrounds in our stakeholders and community.

Steward the Ecosystem

We share the view that we as humans are not separate, but intimately woven into the systems that sustain life. As such, we have a responsibility to steward these ecosystems and create a balanced, life-sustaining climate for future generations. We take an ecosystem-wide approach to everything we do, whether that is supporting our own organizational system or understanding how to tailor our carbon projects to best restore local ecosystems.

Our Team

We're a team of biologists, ecologists, foresters, botanists and researchers who are dedicated to improving the additionality, profitability, scalability and efficiency of carbon removal projects using frontier plant science.
